Spaceship Earth Part II

Norwood at the Kodak Picture Spot

I thought since we talked about Spaceship Earth inside yesterday we might talk about the outside of Spaceship Earth today. I remember my first visit to Epcot in 2000 I thought… “Why is there a giant golf ball at this part?” Though I thought that the park was a tribute to golf during my first visit I thought the structure itself was absolutely beautiful. I have never seen anything like it since and every time I go to Epcot I must take another shot of the “Epcot Ball.” I know I am not the only who finds Spaceship Earth beautiful because on flickr alone there over 10,000 photos of “Epcot Ball” or “Spaceship Earth.” But not only is a great icon to take photos in front when you visit Epcot it, like the inside has changed throughout the years.

Does anyone remember when it had the “2000” and the wand…?

Or when it just had that great wand…

No matter how many times I see the “Epcot Ball” I am always amazed. I have countless photos of it during the day at night, from a distance, up close, below it, between trees… the list goes on and on. Sometimes I try to get creative with my shots of Spaceship Earth but most of the time I just like to snap a photo upon walking in. Do you have any memorable moments or great photos of the Epcot Ball you would like to share? Oh and here is a question… what do you call the Epcot Ball and why? As you may have noticed I like to call it the “Epcot Ball” mainly because my first impression of it was that it was a giant golf ball and now I cannot think of it as anything else.

Oh and when I asked Norwood what he thought about it the first time he saw it he said he remembers thinking that it was the coolest thing in Epcot and today he believes that "IT IS Epcot!"

I lay on the ground and photograph "up" my kids with the giant ball behind them.
