Disney's Kennel Club- Animal Kingdom

For those of us with fur babies it is often hard to bring them on vacation along with us. The last thing Norwood and I want to do with Maverick is board him somewhere. To us many kennels look like doggie jails and since we rescued our little guy from a Humane Society we really do not want to leave him at a place where he will think he was abandoned. Although we currently live just down the street from Disney we wanted to be sure that, if we ever needed to board Maverick that the Disney Kennel Club was an option. We walked into the Kennel Club at Animal Kingdom and talked to the manager on duty to find out some of the details.
The company that operates the Kennels at the various Disney locations is called Best Friends Pet Care. They charge per animal per day fees with the following ranges…
Dogs:
Overnight (Day Guest): $15.00
Overnight or Resort Guest: $13.00
Daycare: $10.00
Cats:
Overnight (Day Guest): $15.00
Overnight (Resort Guest): $13.00
Daycare: $10.00
What they offer to your fur baby (for the fees above) is basically a clean quiet place for your animal to stay while you are at the parks. For extra fees at certain kennels they will walk your dog and give them treats (they only offer these services at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Fort Wilderness). There are kennels located at the park entrances of Animal Kingdom (pictured above), Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom.
Although we were not allowed to take photos inside the facility Norwood and I personally toured the kennel and found it to indeed be clean with large cages (only the front is open so they never really get to see the other dogs). It was very cool and the one little guy who was in there looked content.
In the summer of 2009 Disney will be building a large dog park and kennel complete with a dog run. They are hoping that at their new facility they will be able to offer more walks and snacks to the pets. I will keep you updated as to the details of the new pet care facility.
As far as kennels go, Disney’s Kennel Club looks like a clean, safe place to leave your dog or cat. Although reservations are not required for your pets they are recommended. You can reserve a space for your furry one by calling the following numbers…
Disney's Animal Kingdom 407-938-2100
Disney's Hollywood Studios 407-560-4282
Epcot 407-560-6229
Magic Kingdom/TTC 407-824-6568
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground 407-824-2735
And they will let you look at the facility before you board your pet, so if you have any concerns feel free to address them to the attendant they are very friendly and helpful.

As an annual pass member I used the WDW kennels before the outsourcing to "Best Friends" and was pleased - especially with the Epcot location. I am concerned to her about Best Friends managing WDW kennels on property, I had a terrible experience with a Best Friends facility in New Jersey. My best friend got very sick from his stay, and my request for information and assistance for reasonable medical bills was met by difficult management and a corporate structure designed to be elusive of customer contact or basic customer service.
